Allen Carter2Post 41 has lost another of its senior members to Post Everlasting.

Allen Montgomery Carter, 90, of Berryville, Virginia, died Friday, December 21, 2012 in a local nursing home. Mr. Carter was born January 20, 1922 in Clarke County, Virginia, the son of the late Raleigh Colston and Josephine Holladay Carter.

He worked as a circulation manager for Richmond newspapers retiring in 1987.

He served in the U. S. Navy during World War in the Pacific Theatre.

He was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 41.

He married Dixie Fugitt Carter on November 1, 1947 in Berryville, Virginia. Mrs. Carter died March 12, 2008.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Orrison of Winchester, VA and Susan Carter of Berryville, VA; a brother, Richard I. Carter of Berryville, VA; and his beloved lab, Casey.

A son, George Carter, three brothers, William Carter, Douglas Carter, and Raleigh Carter, Jr., and four sisters, Rebecca Carter Decker, Josephine Carter Walton, Louise Fenton, and Charlotte Carter all preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2012 and a memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, with Rev. Ken Patrick officiating. Burial will be private.
