Department Convention

Bob Jackson receiving his District “Legionnaire of the Year” Award from Commander Mike Linster.

The 93rd Annual Convention of the Department of Virginia was held on July 20-22, 2012, at the Holiday Inn Koger Center in Richmond.  Commander Mike Linster and Adjutant Bob Ferrebee represented Post 41 at the convention.  Post 41 received several Post and individual awards.

Legionnaire Bob Jackson was honored as the Fifteenth District’s Legionnaire of the Year. As Post 41’s Legionnaire of the Year, he qualified for consideration for this award. Congratulations, Bob.

Post 41 was a recipient of the Post Excellence Award presented by National Commander Fang A. Wong.  This award recognizes Posts that demonstrated excellence in four of the main areas of concern to The American Legion.  This is the second time Post 41 has received this award.  To qualify for the award, Post 41 was required to certify a high standard of participation in each of the four areas—membership, youth activities, community service, and support to currently serving troops and veterans.  Only six Virginia Posts received this award.

Post 41 also received several membership awards.  These included the Old Dominion Gold Award for attaining our membership goal by April 4th; a certificate for attaining all membership goals; a 100% membership streamer for our Legion flag; and a desk pen set for Past Commander Bill Overbey.  This marks the tenth consecutive year that we have attaining our 100% membership goal.

Immediate Past Fifteenth District Commander John Kokernak was elected Department Vice Commander for the 2013 Legion Year.  John served as the Fifteenth District Commander for several years and is a member of Front Royal Post 53.  Congratulations, John.
