National Marine Corps Museum

American Legion Post 41 and VFW Post 6790 sponsored a bus trip to the National Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico, Virginia, on Tuesday, April 19, 2011.  Schrock Tours provided the bus at a discount rate and the driver volunteered his services.  The two Posts split the cost of the bus.  It was a great trip with 42 members of Post 41 and VFW Post 9760 participating.

You did not have to be a Marine to appreciate this museum.  It covered the entire history of the Marine Corps using multi-media and historic artifacts.  Docents were available as guides to explain exhibits and answer questions.  Some of our group had lunch at the “Mess Hall” cafeteria while others opted for Tun Tavern.  The Museum Store had almost every imaginable item related to the Marine Corps.

A very special thank you is extended to Mike Kirby for volunteering his time to drive the tour bus.  Thanks also to Tom Bundy and Paul Sheehan for organizing the trip.
